Pseudostichococcus Stands Out from Its Siblings Due to High Salinity and Desiccation Tolerance

چکیده
Desiccation and high salinity are two abiotic stressors that related in terms of their effect on water homeostasis within cells. The success certain aeroterrestrial microalgae is influenced by ability to cope with desiccation, some cases, salinity. the Stichococcus clade ubiquitous terrestrial habitats known withstand desiccation stress accumulating secondary metabolites. Nevertheless, it remains unclear if those have a synergistic effect. Hence, we studied various representative taxa clade. results showed contrast other taxa, Pseudostichococcus was able recover fully after without stress. This observation connected elevated proline production under higher proline:sorbitol ratio strains tested. In increasing reduced desiccation. might severe effects (semi)arid regions, where salinization soils an threat also for agriculture. encourage further research be done possible applications this genus bioremediation, as seems comparable halotolerant green algae used purpose.

Tolerance of Ruppia sinensis Seeds to Desiccation, Low Temperature, and High Salinity With Special Reference to Long-Term Seed Storage
Seeds are important materials for the restoration of globally-threatened marine angiosperm (seagrass) populations. In this study, we investigated the differences between different Ruppia sinensis seed types and developed two feasible long-term R. sinensis seed storage methods. The ability of R. sinensis seeds to tolerate the short-term desiccation and extreme cold had been investigated. The tol...
متن کاملAquatic insects in a multistress environment: cross-tolerance to salinity and desiccation.
Exposing organisms to a particular stressor may enhance tolerance to a subsequent stress, when protective mechanisms against the two stressors are shared. Such cross-tolerance is a common adaptive response in dynamic multivariate environments and often indicates potential co-evolution of stress traits. Many aquatic insects in inland saline waters from Mediterranean-climate regions are sequentia...
متن کاملProgramming desiccation-tolerance: from plants to seeds to resurrection plants.
Desiccation-tolerance (DT) evolved as the key solution to survival on land by the early algal ancestors of terrestrial plants. This 'first' DT involved utilizing rapidly mobilisable repair mechanisms and is still found today in mosses, such as Tortula ruralis, and ferns, such as Mohria caffrorum. The first seed plants lost vegetative DT while investing their seeds with tolerance mechanisms impr...
متن کاملCephalobus litoralis: Biology and Tolerance to Desiccation.
Cephalobus litoralis (Akhtar, 1962) Andrássy, 1984 reproduced parthenogenetically and completed its life cycle in 72-90 hours. Each female deposited 200-300 eggs. The nematodes showed synchronized movements in the rhythms of the anterior parts of the body. The nematodes were coiled when dried in culture medium or in slowly evaporating water droplets on the tops of culture plates, but in pellets...
متن کاملMechanisms of high salinity tolerance in plants.
Among abiotic stresses, high salinity stress is the most severe environmental stress, which impairs crop production on at least 20% of irrigated land worldwide. In response to high salinity stress, various genes get upregulated, the products of which are involved either directly or indirectly in plant protection. Some of the genes encoding osmolytes, ion channels, receptors, components of calci...
